Disability access statement
At the Anson Engine Museum, we endeavour to provide a personal, caring and welcoming service to all guests. The Trustees and volunteers are sensitive to the needs of our guests and will try to meet any special needs or overcome barriers effectively and respectfully.
The original museum building was built in 1986. Since then, society and individual’s expectations on access have changed enormously and we strive to match these expectations.
The car park has been stoned rather than tarmaced and may be a little uneven. It is, however, possible for passengers to be dropped off immediately outside the front door. The car park area is flat with no steps. You’ll find designated parking for blue badge holders adjacent to the entrance.
We have ample room for wheelchair access throughout the buildings, wide doorways and a one-level floor surface throughout. We also have a wheelchair and a mobility scooter available for visitors which we recommend you book in advance by calling 01625 874 426.
There is a reasonable amount of walking to do during your visit. So, we have provided chairs at various places around the museum for you to use while you chat to other visitors or watch the engines running.
If you find it difficult to read any of our information boards or to see the engines, our staff would be happy to accompany you around the museum and to describe the various machinery on display. We can also provide our laminated guide to the exhibits in large print.
When we have several engines running, it can be noisy and occasionally you can smell the oil and lubricants given off by the running machinery. Because of the nature of our exhibits with moving parts, we ask that children be accompanied at all times.
The toilet block is accessible for wheelchair users and one toilet has grab rails but, unfortunately, is not fully adapted to today's enhanced specifications. This is an area we plan to address in the near future.
We sincerely hope that we can meet your needs during your visit and that you enjoy the experience of the Anson Engine Museum. For further information, or to leave your comments, please ring 01625 874 426 or email enquiry@enginemuseum.org
